Hopkins out for six weeks

John Hopkins will probably be out of action for a minimum of six weeks following Sunday's race 1 crash at the Nurburgring in which he ended up on the tarmac together with Broc Parkes and Makoto Tamada and was then run over by Vittorio Iannuzzo. He lost consciousness for ten minutes and woke up in the ambulance taking him to hospital.
The Stiggy Racing Honda rider was declared free of any serious injuries, but further checks with Dr Ting back in the USA revealed something unusual going on in John's brain and a specialist examination was scheduled for the unfortunate 26-year-old Anglo-American.
"Everything went ok, there is a small bruise to the back of the brain that was bleeding but not anymore" posted his wife Ashleigh on John's website. "They have rescheduled John to come back in 6 weeks to re check and see if there is any change in size."
Hopkins however did undergo corrective surgery at the Fremont Centre in California on his right wrist and left shoulder, which were injured in the turn 3 crash. "Surgery took place around 5pm and didn't wrap up till around 7.30-8pm" continued Ashleigh. "I waited in the recovery room till he eventually came around. He is so funny to be around when he does, a complete joker!"
